This BREVET was flagged off from IOCL Petrol Pump at Kottara Chouki at 17.15hrs on the 21 May 2016. Our own cyclists, Mr. Gopalkrishna Baliga, Mr. Ashokavardhana & IOCL officer wished all the cyclists safe ride and good luck. Apart from being a night brevet on a full moon night, this brevet saw as many as 33 riders registering for the event. The noteworthy aspect of the event was participation of Superintendent of Police, Udupi district, Mr. Annamalai, Dr. Ramraj and 18 riders from Udupi, Manipal & Mangalore, who all were taking part for the first time in a BREVET event.

The riders fully equipped with reflective jackets, cycles fitted with powerful front & back lights, rode all along the NH66 passing through the coastal cities of Surathkal, Mulky, Kaup, Udupi, Brahmavara, Kumbashi, Kundapura & Maravanthe, before taking U-Turn at IOCL Petrol Pump at Trasi on the Maravanthe beach, covering the distance of 200km in the night. Out of the 30 riders who took part, 26 riders could complete the event within the cut-off time of 13.30Hrs and reached back. Due to severe humid conditions, 4 riders dropped off from the ride.

6/8 Volunteers from team MACC/Udupi were always ready with emergency back-up support on 3 vehicles plying back & forth all through the night, taking good care of riders at turning point, and various water points with sumptuous food, cool water & banana and clicking amazing pictures of the ride.

Mr. Annamali, after completing his first Brevet exclaimed, this was one of the best event he ever participated in the recent times and thanked all volunteers & organisers for meticulously organising this event. Dr. Raaraj, was ecstatic after being the Randonneur for the first time and credited all this to his daily rides with MACC members. He said he never tried to push but his mantra of endurance riding was hydration, nutrition (took break after every 20min for munching) and cadence. Dr. Ramraj formed a group with one other first timer Mr. Danny and both completed the ride quite comfortably in the end. 15 yr old Suraj Samaga, who rode along with his father was all excited to be the the youngest Randonneur of the club.

BREVETS DE RANDONNEUR MONDIAUX (BRMs) are rides of fixed distances that are to be completed within specified time limits, having successfully passed through pre-determined time controls. The recognition is equal regardless of finishing order! Each rider, who finishes the event within the cut-off time is awarded with a certificate and a medal directly from ACP. Moreover, the rider will get a step closer to become a Super Randonneure and an opportunity to take part in one of the oldest and most coveted cycling event in the world, the Paris Brest Paris event, held in France once every 4 years.

BRMs worldwide are approved by Audax Club Parisien (ACP) and governed by their Rules and Regulations. Mangalore Cycling Club (MACC) in association with Audax India Randonneurs (AIR) which is the sole authority for conducting and overseeing all BRMs and Audax events in India, is bringing these events to this coastal city, Mangalore.

Team MACC conveys its sincere gratitude to all the riders, volunteers, Udupi District police department for spotlessly co-ordinating the night traffic on highway & encouraging the riders, IOCL for allowing us to make use of their petrol pumps.
