Yahoo, Facebook and other tech companies, in a bid to check cyber-attacks, have announced the creation of a “ThreatExchange” for sharing information.

The social media site stated “ThreatExchange is built on the existing Facebook platform infrastructure… so that partner companies can query the available threat information and also publish to all or a subset of participating organizations.”

According to the statement, Pinterest, Twitter, Yahoo and Tumblr are working on the program. In addition to these tech firms, the new partner companies include Dropbox and Bitly.

The social networking site Facebook stated that they want to make internet safer for individuals and give them better ways to share and connect.

Social network further stated “After working with a number of our peer companies to refine the structure and implementation, we are ready to introduce ThreatExchange and see what we can learn from each other.”

The tech firms took this step in the middle of a stalled effort in Congress to pass cyber-security law, according to which, the company could easily share information about threats without being afraid of liability.

In the meantime, the Obama administration disclosed plans for a new US intelligence center to incorporate information pertaining to cyber threats.
