Major-General Khamis Matar Al Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said the gang committed 17 thefts in Abu Dhabi, 12 in Dubai, 12 in Sharjah, 10 in Ras Al Khaimah, seven in Ajman, six in Umm Al Quwain and six in Fujairah.

The police noticed similarities in many of the thefts that were reported, leading to suspicion that the same gang was at work. Primary investigations revealed that the thieves were of Chinese origin.

The police stopped two of the suspects found “roaming around” in Al Barsha area and seized a bag from one of them. The bag contained tools used in breaking into houses and gloves. The two suspects were taken into custody and during interrogation reportedly confessed to carrying out the thefts. They led the police to two other suspects, who reportedly provided “logistic support” to the thieves by giving them locations of villas whose owners were away on vacation. They also transported the thieves to the location, said the police.

Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation, said the suspects led them to the flat of the fifth and sixth suspects in International City. Here, the police recovered a part of the stolen goods and maps of residential sites the gang was targeting.

The gang also led the police to an isolated area in Warsan market near the China Market, where they had buried some of the stolen items. The rest of the stolen items were buried in a sandy area near the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road opposite Al Maktoum International Airport.
