Civil Defence team cut the power and evacuated residents from the building
Sharjah: A residential building in Sharjah caught fire Thursday afternoon.
Brigadier Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News the fire broke out in a residential tower of 24 floors.
Civil Defence team cut the power in the building and residents were evacuated from the building.
Many residents were treated for suffocation at the site. The fire is under control, said Brigadier Al Suwaidi.
Cooling down operation is still under way.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. A thick plume of black smoke could be seen from kilometres .
