Dubai Customs is all set to develop and use the latest smart IT applications in the field of inspection.
The Dubai Customs seized counterfeit products of major brands worth millions of dirhams last year.

According to a senior official, the fake products worth Dh16.8 million were part of 135 seizures, which included electronic items, watches, glasses, clothing, fabrics, perfumes and cosmetics.

Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer, Executive Director of Policies and Legislation Division, Dubai Customs, said duplicated medicines and medical equipment, tyres, auto spare parts, telephones and accessories, computers and other imports were also seized.

Dubai Customs is all set to develop and use the latest smart IT applications in the field of inspection, he added. “In 2015, we launched a special smart bag for inspection, the first of its kind in the airports of the world that provides all the necessary toolkits for inspecting passengers’ luggage.”

Al Tayer said that Dubai Customs also launched the eco-friendly mobile laboratory, which is an amphibious vehicle carrying 10 solar-powered inspection devices which can operate round-the-clock.
