Children are the most common victims of sexual abuse these days, no matter boys or girls. Parenting is now more challenging with all the increasing rate of social evils around us. Educating your child about sexual abuse has become important like the same way how you teach them to cross a road.

It is difficult for a child to identify and report that they are getting abused. This offers a greater challenge for the parents. Sexual abuse can be touching or non-touching. It even includes taking pictures of children for sexual pleasure.

Ways To Educate Kids About Sexual Abuse:

Knowing the common signs of child abuse will help you identify whether your child is facing any such problems. While considering child sexual abuse, we cannot predict who, when and where! So, it is better to make your child educate about this. Teaching good and bad touch is very important in this context. If you wonder how to explain good touch and bad touch to your children, try these ideas.

Teach body parts: You should teach the correct names of each body parts to the children. Also, include the names of their private parts. This will help the children to specify each part while they want to convey something about a bad touch to parents or teachers. You can tell them that the parts covered by a swimsuit are their private body parts.

Explain different touches: Let them know the different types of touches that they may experience and face. This includes safe touch-that will care the child like a pat on the back or an arm around shoulder, unsafe touch-that will hurt child’s body or feelings like hitting or pushing and unwanted touch- that the children should know to say ‘no’.

Teach to differentiate touches: Make them understand that their body belongs to them and nobody other that their parents have the right to touch them without their concern. You should also take care not to touch them when they really don’t like the way you hold them. Don’t ask children to kiss or hug any relatives if they really don’t want to.

Family touch rules: Make sure that nobody in the family, including the parents, touches the child’s private parts except for keeping them clean and healthy. Cleaning can include diaper change, wiping or washing. The healthy touch is when you or a doctor examines the private parts for any health issues.

Social touch rules: Teach your children not to touch others private parts and tell them not to allow others to touch theirs as well. Make sure that they know that it is not okay for someone to touch their own body parts in front of them.

Underwear rule: If you wonder how to explain good touch and bad touch, the easiest way to explain this to a child is the underwear rule. Let them know that any touch on the body parts that is covered by their underwear is a bad touch. This will give them an easy-to-remember code; the underwear.

Once they know to differentiate good and bad touches, teach them to say ‘no’ and let them know the importance of reporting any issue.
