Indian couple dies in accident leaving a baby behind

A six-month old baby miraculously survived a bus crash that left both his parents, as well as another passenger, dead during Eid holidays.

Three members of an Eid picnic team from Al Ain died on the spot on Saturday morning when one of the three buses carrying the team back home crashed.

Six-month old Vipin, the only son of an Indian couple from Tamil Nadu, has been undergoing treatment in the Al Tawm hospital, Abu Dhabi, after his parents died in the accident.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Rajesh, a friend and colleague of the deceased IT technician, said: “We are all sad about the death of Prithviraj, 31, and Vineesha, 21, in the bus accident. We were all on an Eid picnic trip on Friday. The accident happened when we were coming back from Fujairah and Korfakkan.”

According to Indian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi, the driver of a Lexus vehicle that hit the bus has been detained and all support is being extended to the family affected by the road crash. Around 20 people in the group sustained injuries.

“The couple and the baby were sitting in the rear of the bus, behind me. They both died on the spot along with another passenger. The baby sustained minor injuries and is recovering in the Al Tawam Hospital,” said Rajesh.

He added the couple was very happy after their first visit to the UAE in mid-August and the wife was pregnant.

“She was a housewife and came to the UAE on a family visa. She was two-months pregnant, but unfortunately she too died on the spot, leaving baby Vipin alone,” said a relative who flew in from India.

“He is in hospital and he is alright now,” said a family friend, who is taking care of the baby.

Baby Vipin sustained bruises and injuries and is now out of danger, said Johnson, a friend and colleague of the deceased.
