18 SSLC Students expected to write their final exams in Tulu language.

Mangalore, October 24: In the upcoming SSLC examinations of 2014-2015, about 18 students from Mangalore city are going to write exams in Tulu language.

Pompei High school in Urwa store has taken a bold step with its 18 students appearing for SSLC 2014-2015 examinations in Tulu language. Model exam papers have been already submitted to SSLC board for approval.

The government had considered Tulu a third language from the academic year 2010-2011.Code number allotted for Tulu by the SSLC board is 69. The code number is compulsory for all the subjects. The name list of students appearing for the exams has also been sent to the board.

The government wished to introduce Tulu as a third language in at least 100 schools. The text books sent to various schools were never utilized as students had not taken up Tulu as the third language.

Very first batch of 18 students is now being trained to write exams in Tulu. The students of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have a choice for the third language in Tulu. Tulu Sahithya Academy is taking initiatives to introduce Tulu in schools including private schools. Text books are directly distributed from the academy.
