Gold seized from a Mumbai based woman at Mangalore Airport.

Mangaluru, December 20: On a tip off from the immigration authorities of Mangalore International Airport, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Friday December 19 intercepted a lady passenger and seized from her possession gold ornaments weighing 749.9 grams valued at Rs 16,49,780, brought by her in a concealed manner.

The gold ornaments, packed in two rectangular shaped packets wrapped in adhesive tape, were found concealed in the waist portion underneath the denim jeans trousers worn by her inside her burka.

The lady passenger, identified as Nazneen Banu Mahfooz Qureshi, wife of Mahfooz Ayyub Qureshi, aged about 41 years, is a resident of Khadak, Mumbai. She arrived at Mangalore International Airport December 19th at about 08.30 am by Air India Express flight No IX814 from Dubai.

She was arrested later and produced before the chief judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Further investigation in the case is under way.
