Mangaluru, December 22: Over the issue of non-appointment of a commissioner to Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for the past six months, the BJP district unit protested on Monday December 22nd against urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Sorake was expected in the city to attend a private function at a hotel but his visit was cancelled.
On learning that Sorake would be attending the function, the BJP members gathered in front of their party’s office at PVS and staged protest showing black flags against the minister.
Premanand Shetty, opposition leader in the MCC speaking to the media said, “Since the past six months, we have been demanding the appointment of MCC commissioner, but the government has failed to act on it. Hence, wherever and whenever Sorake visits Mangaluru, we will protest by waving black flags. The MCC is facing many problems because of this issue”, he said.
Premanand said, “We will continue our protest until they appoint a new commissioner. It is the responsibility of the government”.
Bunder and Barke cops rushed to the spot. Around five to six persons were detained initially, but soon the protest turned chaotic. The cops arrested 25-30 persons and took them in vans.
In the protest, BJP members Monappa Bhandary, Vedavasa Kamath, Kishore Kumar, and many others participated.
