Mangalore Central railway station will soon get two escalators.

Mangaluru, January 27: Mangalore Central railway station will get two escalators soon for the faultless movement of passengers from one platform to the other, even as the work on the installation of two elevators is in progress, Anand Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division, has said.

Anand Prakash spoke after hoisting the national flag to celebrate Republic Day at Palakkad on Monday, January 26th. Meanwhile, the mechanised cleaning of coaches, with the help of high-pressure jet machines, presently used for primary maintenance at Kannur and Mangalore Central, would shortly be available at Mangalore Junction and Palakkad Junction, he said.

Rise in income:

Prakash said the income recorded by the division from April to December, 2014, was Rs. 953.14 crore compared to Rs. 771.16 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year.

The income from goods was Rs. 412.69 crore, 30.18 per cent more from the Rs. 317.01 crore during the last year. The passenger income has been Rs. 489.43 crore, surpassing the Rs. 410.85 crore in the previous year. Monthly ticket checks have brought in Rs. 51.56 lakh till December, 2014, and the division earned Rs. 11.56 crore through the sale of scraps, revealed Prakash.

The division achieved 94.5 per cent punctuality of Mail/Express trains and 96.4 per cent for passenger trains during April-December, 2014.

During the current financial year, it operated 415 special train services of which, 159 were run alone in December.  In order to avoid extra rush of passengers, 167 coaches were amplified during this year.
