Awareness programme on ‘Motor Vehicles Act 1988’ held at RTO Office in Mangaluru.

Mangaluru, March 03: A awareness programme on Motor Vehicles Act 1988, was organised by District Legal Services Authority and Mangalore Bar Association at RTO Office in the city on Monday, March 2nd.

B K Nayika, First Additional District and Sessions Judge addressed the gathering and said, the agony and shock faced by family of victims who die and are injured seriously in accidents is unimaginable.

ACP Uday Nayak said, vehicle users must know the basic driving laws. Transport Department have been asked to cancel driving licence of accused in road accidents. In cases of drunken driving and rash driving, the DL of concerned would be cancelled.

ACP also added, this year, in many two-­wheeler accidents, riders died as they failed to wear helmet. Hence to protect their life, one should wear helmet.

Senior Civil Judge Ganesh B urged the parents not to permit their minor children to drive. He asked the citizens to avail the benefit of mobile legal literacy van and mobile Janatha Nyayalaya.

Speaking further he said, the motor vehicle accidents occurring in the city is increasing. There is need of awareness about Motor Vehicles Act 1988 among people to follow safety measures while driving and respect others’ life and use protection gear.

Regional Transport Officer Afzal Ahmed Khan said, in India impatience is the main reason behind road accidents. Patience and good road rules should be a part of the culture, he said.
