Mangaluru, March 27: The Joint Regional and Official Language Conference of South and West Regions, was organized by the department of official languages under the home ministry, at Hotel Ocean Pearl here on Friday March 27th.
Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala addressing the gathered and said that every person should have an aim in life and how we live is important. Our knowledge should be beneficial to others. Indian Constitution accepts Hindi as the national language. We are not against any language, but we should show the same passion in learning Hindi too as we do to learn English, he said.
Governor further said, Languages may be different but the nation is one. Language binds knowledge from every part of the country and in India, it is Hindi that unites all knowledge. Every state has its own language, and it should be promoted along with the national language. Over 75 percent of the Indian citizens can understand Hindi. There should not be fights over language, he said.
Law was written in English and hence we learnt English. In future, if the laws are written in Hindi, the future generation will learn Hindi in a better manner, he said.
Governor also added, South India is Ganges of knowledge from where eminent thinkers and scholars have emerged. Great works have been written by these great scholars and saints in various languages such as Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam etc and this knowledge should be well utilized. Their scripts should be translated to Hindi language, so that people throughout India can read them.
Snehalatha Kumari of Rajbhasha Vibhag who presided over the programme said, the intention of this convention is to promote the use of Hindi language. A language gets prominence when people use it more and more in their daily lives. Hindi language is easy and popular among the people.
Cash award for Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar has been hiked to support officials languages, she informed.
Awards were presented to various persons on this occasion in recognition to their contribution in popularising Hindi.
Vijaykumar of Corportation Bank, Poonam Junaid and Malai Chatterjee of Rajbhasha Vibhag, were present among others on this occasion.
