Air India mishap in Mangaluru will complete five years tomorrow.

Mangaluru, May 21: Air India mishap in Mangaluru will complete five years on May 22nd, but the Air India organization has failed to keep up its word. It has failed to fulfil its assurance.

May 22nd of the year 2010, is a dark day in the history of Dakshina Kannada. 158 passengers on board were charred to death within seconds. The firm had given various assurances but till now those promises are not fulfilled. Even the promise of extending the runway which was claimed to be responsible for mishap is also not implemented.

Air India Chief management officer who had arrived to Mangaluru during the first anniversary of the tragedy speaking to the reporters had said, a community hall, library and health center will be built at Malavur gram panchayat jurisdiction where the mishap had taken place. Air India will provide 90 percent of the construction cost and the rest 10 percent of the cost should be given by the Malavur gram Panchayat, he said.

Malavur gram Panchayat had consented to this. After four years Air India had phoned, pertaining to this matter, and no more developments have taken place further. Even the proposal of acquiring the land where the mishap had taken place remained pending. The land owner had cleared the name plate of the deceased which was erected in the place of tragedy.

22/5 park in memory of the deceased:

In the tragedy, bodies of twelve members were unidentified. The district management had buried these bodies in an empty land near the side of the road which goes to Thannirubhavi beach. The district management has requested the New Mangalore port trust to build a ‘22/5 park’ in memory of the deceased in this area which belongs to New Mangalore port trust. The NMPT has come forward to develop a park in this area at a cost of Rs 30 lakhs. If everything goes well, chances are likely that this project work gets may be initiated on May 22nd, 2015.

Memorial in Thannirubhavi:

As it was opined that the memorial of the tragedy should not be constructed in the vicinity of Mangaluru Airport, the DK district administration has come forward to construct the monument in Tahnnirubhavi, said DC AB Ibrahim.
