Mangaluru, July4: In connection to the protest, 35 protesters including DyFI state president Muneer Katiplla and women were arrested by the Suratkal police.
Claiming that from the time the Sulphur and Coke unit of MRPL became operational, the local residents have been suffering from various kinds of lungs and skin ailments. The locals demanded the closure of this plant and had staged many protests since ten months and were successful in closure of corridor there.
As the MRPL began the consignment transport at around 11.30 am today in this corridor which was closed, the angry locals staged protest demanding for the closure of corridor.
The protest was led by DyFI. The locals were successful in thwarting the operations of the huge machine. The Jokatte residents continually opposed against the productions of MRPL which has neglected the health of the local residents.
The police have now arrested 35 members to take control of the protest.
