Mangaluru, August 1: Following the flash protest staged by the lawyers alleging of assault on their colleague by Inspector Nagaraj of Kadri police station on Friday, July 31st; the Police Commissioner has ordered suspension of the SI Nagaraj of Kadri Police station, it is learnt.
It is gathered that while lawyer Uttam Rai along with his client Ratnakar had been to Kadri police station for the investigations about the allegations against the Bhuvi Enterprises, it is said that there was an exchange of words between the lawyer and the inspector. The inspector Nagaraj had used abusive language, locked up the lawyer inside the cell and along with three police men assaulted on the lawyer Uttam Rai, alleged the lawyers.
The lawyers association led by S P Changappa president of the Bar Association staged a flash protest, soon after the incident in front of the Kadri police station.
It is gathered that, Uttam Rai is an Assistant Lawyer under the Lawyer A P Shenoy.
Uttam Rai is a civil lawyer and is a nice person. He had been to the police station to do his duty. The police have beaten him up as if he were a criminal due to which a situation has occurred of getting him admitted to hospital. Hence, considering this matter, the Inspector Nagraj has to be suspended, demanded the president of Mangaluru Bar Association S P Chengappa.
The senior police officials who visited the spot had assured of initiating appropriate actions over the matter, it is said.
But as no orders were passed against the SI till evening, the lawyers once again staged a protest in the evening in front of the Kadri police station, it is gathered.
Meanwhile, Advocate P P Hegde, president of Karnataka State Bar Council arrived at the spot and said, the lawyer was treated in an unfair way in the police station. He also added that the act of assault on the lawyer by the three police men along with the SI is condemnable and demanded the suspension of the concerned SI and the police, it is learnt.
In the view of all these developments, Mangaluru Police Commissioner S Murugan has ordered the suspension of Kadri SI T.D. Nagraj, it is learnt.
