Govt.vehicles and designated transport must install GPS – deadlines set

Mangalore, Aug 01: DK Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that it has been made mandatory to install Global Positioning System (GPS) in government buses and vehicles that are used for distributing food and civil supplies. He announced this in a meeting chaired by him at his office on Thursday, July 31.

A deadline of August 30 is set for installing GPS in sand transportation vehicles and a deadline of September end for installing GPS in government buses and vehicles that supply ration, kerosene and milk.

Explaining about GPS, NITK Students’ Welfare Officer M Prasadnath said that the instrument helps to keep a reliable track where the vehicle travelled at a particular time and what was its speed. A display, a computer enabled with GPS tracking system is required for monitoring the vehicle and a sim card is requires for every GPS equipment, he said.

District Mines and Geology Department Deputy Director (In-Charge) Nagendrappa, Canara Bus Owners’ Association President Rajaverma Ballal, KSRTC officials and others were present.
