Arecanuts and electronic goods worth Rs 1.7 lakhs stolen, 2 thieves arrested

Moodbidri, Aug 01: The arecanut and electronic goods belonging to Vincent D’Mello of Palkedabailu in Daragudde village were stolen on July 30. The Moodbidri Police have arrested the robbers who have stolen arecanut worth Rs 90,000 and electronic goods worth Rs 17000 within 24 hours.

The arrested persons are Dinesh Poojary (28) and Harish Poojary(26)  The prime accused however is said to be absconding and a search has been launched for him.

Vincent D’Mello had stocked peeled arecanuts weighing 60 kgs in 14 gunny bags on July 29 at his brother’s residence. The next day when Vincent’s son Monish had been to the room where the arecanut was stocked, he found the room locks broken and the door open. Eight bags of arecanut from the room and the electronic goods kept in the showcase were found stolen.

The police who acted on the clue that some persons were lurking suspiciously in the area several times, grabbed the opportunity and arrested the thieves.
