Bengaluru: A family court here on Wednesday declared the claims of small-time actor Maithriya Gowda that Karthik Gowda, son of Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, had married her as null and void.

A family court here on Wednesday declared the claims of small-time actor Maithriya Gowda that Karthik Gowda, son of Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, had married her as null and void.

The Gowda clan heaved a sigh of relief after the court observed that Maithriya did not furnish proper documents to establish that she had been married to Karthik Gowda. The court ruling has paved way for smooth conduct of Karthik’s wedding with a girl with whom his engagement took place recently. The court  observed that Maithriya failed to furnish details to prove that she stayed together with Karthik.

Pictures could not be considered to conclude that she got married to Karthik. Moreover, she failed to provide pictures showing Karthik tying ‘mangalasutra’ and walking the ‘saptapadi’ along with him as per Hindu rituals, the court observed.

Maithriya also failed to produce wedding registration certificate to regularise her wedding with Karthik. Hence, the court could not declare that she was married to Karthik.

Maithriya had filed another petition seeking that the court  direct Karthik not to marry another woman. The second petition lost relevance as the court dismissed her claims that she was married to Karthik. Hence, Karthik can now enter wedlock with a girl engaged to him, claimed Gowda’s counsel.
