Bengaluru, May 8: A court of the National Investigating Agency has sentenced 10 accused in the professor hand chopping case to 8 years imprisonment. All these persons were found guilty of the charges leveled against them last week by the court.

Last week when the court pronounced the verdict, it had said that it would deliver the quantum of the sentence at a later date. The court in its verdict had also acquitted 17 others in the case.

Case details:

Professor, Joseph was attacked by activists of the Popular Front of India and chopped off his hand. The PFI alleged that the Prophet had been insulted in the question paper at the Newman College, Thodupuzha, Kerala.

After the exams were completed, some people handed over the question paper to several Muslim outfits in Kerala and alleged that the Prophet had been insulted. The police too had sought to take action against Joseph who had gone into hiding. However he surrendered later.

One day when he returning home from a local Church, his car was stopped. A crude bomb was exploded and then the PFI members pulled him out of the car and chopped his right palm.
