Colleague murdered for money- Police arrest the culprit.

Udupi, May 11: In relation to the suspicious case of a dead body of Raja Patel, which was traced in a secluded area near Padebettu, Padubidri police have arrested the culprit.

The culprit is identified as Subramanya (38), resident of Nellineedu in Kedremukha. During investigations Subramanya has revealed that he had murdered his colleague Raja Patil for money.

Case Details:

From the past one and a half years, Raja Patel (24) from Jeevargi of Kalaburgi was working for contract company Seemer of UPCL. As his cousins wedding was scheduled on April 21st, Raja Patel applied leave to go to his native, but later he went absconding.

On April 25th, a complaint was filed in Padubidri police station. On May 8th, an unidentified dead body was found in a secluded area near Bikriguttu in Padebettu at Padubidri. Based on the cloths, the body was identified as that of Raja Patel.

A team was formed under the guidance of Kaup inspector Sunil Nayak, led by station house officer Azmuth Ali to trace the culprit. Police kept a watch on the colleagues of Raja Patel.

Murder for Money:

Subramanya who was in huge debts, after observing Raja Patel who was ready to leave for his cousins wedding, suspected that the later might be having hot cash, invited Raja to his house. Raja Patel who went to Subramanya’s house at 11 am was murdered after being strangulated using nylon rope from behind and covered the head using a plastic bag.

During the murder, only Rs 1,300 was found in the purse of Raja Patel. After the murder, Subramanya had taken the money and had burnt the purse along with the SIM card and ATM cards.

Same night Subramanya covered the dead body using a plastic sack and disposed it in a remote area about 100 metres away from his house. The next day the culprit left to his native and returned after four-five days. He went for work as usual.

After the decayed dead body was found on May 8th and the body was identified, the police undertook serious investigations. After tracking the numbers which were dialed to the mobile of Raja Patel, the police suspected Subramanya and took him into custody.

During investigations, the accused had confessed to his crime stating that he had committed the crime thinking that Raja Patel might be possessing more money, said Udupi district Additional Superintendent of Police Santhosh Kumar.

A case has been filed against Subramanya for murder and destroying the evidences. The culprit is presented before the court.
