Thirthahalli: Congress leader S M Krishna on Wednesday said the BJP leadership had neglected senior leaders such as L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha and others, who were the face of the saffron party, and was veering towards dictatorship.

Speaking at a Congress election meeting at Thirthahalli, he said he had a close relationship with all the senior BJP leaders and they were the face of that party. “But now, nobody is talking about the BJP or its leaders. The party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has forgotten the leadership culture. He has developed a mentality that everybody should follow his directions and it would be possible for those who have dictatorial instinct,” he said.

“If we follow Modi’s principles, what would be our foreign policy? For example, in Central Asia, most of the countries are Muslim countries and India has been importing crude oil from them. If we follow Modi’s principles, we would not get oil from those countries,” the former external affairs minister said.

In fact, the Vajpayee-led government had also followed the foreign policy of the Congress. But Modi does not understand this sensitive issue because he is just a chief minister, he said.

Reacting to Modi’s allegation that money was looted from the MGNREG scheme, he said there could be some problem while implementing a programme. But the intention of the programme was genuine. The United Nations Organisation has appreciated it.

“But Modi says money was looted from the scheme. Who said this to Modi? If it has happened in the country, then it should have happened in Gujarat also,” he said.
