The City Railway police arrested a man identified as Kashinath (61) for allegedly molesting an Irish national in the waiting room of the City Railway Station on Thursday.

Kashinath, from Davangere, claimed to be an evangelist.

According to the police, the woman had disembarked from the Hampi Express at 6.30 a.m. and was waiting to catch another train at 5.30 p.m. Kashinath approached the woman, who was sitting on the platform, and advised her to rest in the air-conditioned waiting room. He later went to the room and tried putting a shawl around her.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that despite having been told to go away, the man stayed back and touched her on her head and chest. She then complained to the station master. The police booked Kashinath for sexual assault.

The woman was later admitted to a hospital for treatment of dysentery and food poisoning. She left for Kerala on Friday morning.
