A 4-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped while she was playing outside her house, taken to the railway tracks near Virar station and raped in some bushes on Thursday.

Police said the girl, a KG student from a well-to-do family, was playing with her friends outside her house in Nallasopara when an unknown man approached her around 6 pm on Thursday and said he would give her chocolate if she came with him.

The accused took the girl to the railway tracks near platform number 8 at Virar station and raped her in the bushes there. He left her at the spot and fled. Two female commuters saw the girl crying near the platform around 8 pm and took her to the Virar GRP, who ascertained her identity and informed her parents.

The parents had, meanwhile, filed a missing complaint with the Nallasopara police when they couldn’t find their daughter. Suspecting something amiss, the Virar police sent the girl for a medical test, which confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted. A case of sexual assault and kidnapping was registered by the Nallasopara police.

Inspector Bajirao Klantre of Nallasopara police station said, “The survivor was kidnapped from Nallasopara and she was raped near platform number 8 of Virar station. We have still not been able to find out who the accused is as there are no CCTV cameras on that particular platform. We are checking footage from other CCTV cameras to help us nab the accused.”
