Perth,jan, 11 : Australia win by 5 wickets! Smith falls for 149 in the final over but James Faulkner finishes off the proceedings. The home side lost two quick wickets early on but recovered well thanks to the monumental double century partnership between Smith and Bailey. Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 171 goes in vain.

India started their limited-over series Down Under on a losing note as Australia sealed the first One-day International by five wickets. Rohit Sharma who began on a slow note, picked up the pace towards the end of the innings to finish 171 not out.

Barinder Sran, who made his India debut, was impressive with the new ball as he dismissed openers David Warner and Aaron Finch to give India the early breakthrough. However, from there on in, George Bailey (112) and skipper Steven Smith (149) shared a match-winning 242-run stand to help the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the five match ODI series.
