Mangalore/ Beluwai, August 19: In the Karkala taluk, near Kanthavara newly constructed Nation’s second private butterfly park ‘Sammilan Shetty Chitte Park’ has been inaugurated by BNH institution butterfly researcher Isaaq Devid Kehmikar here on Monday, August 19.
After the inauguration, he said that the constructed butterfly park in the foothills of the Western Ghats has national level diversification.’ Nearly 1,500 various categories butterflies have been identified in the country, among them 113 different butterfly species can find in the Belwai Park and I have seen several breeds, which is not available in England and other countries also. Hence, to preserve such park government and non- governmental organisations must work hard and Belwai having the good environment for Butterfly Park’, said Rehmikar.
Butterfly preservation causes for saving of other species: Preservation of butterflies causes for the betterment of the ecology. Due to the industrialisation, it effected on butterfly species as well as other species of the ecology. Hence to build the butterfly park, relevant environment must be constructed, said insect specialist Dr. N. A. Madhyasta.
Chief Guest MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that such butterfly park influences the national and state youth. It helps to opens the eyes of those politicians, who think because of the power plantations world glows, he said.
Mumbai BNHS institution director Dr. Subbalaxmi said that nation’s first butterfly park is at Valekarvadi of Thane, Mumbai and Belwai park places in second and the contribution of youth in constructing such park is appreciable, she wished.
In the coastal, butterflies species reduced, due to power plantation. Hence, if industrialisation increases butterfly generation will see its end, said biology specialist Arunachalam Kumar.
In Karkala- Moodabidre NH road 169, 8 km away from Moodabidre city, state’s first butterfly park’ Sammilan shetty’s Butterfly Park’, has spread in 7.35 acres of land. We can see such species like Malabar Banded Peacock, Southern bird, Oak blue cruiser and other types of species can be seen here. This park will be opened to public on every Sunday at 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, said butterfly park’s Sammilan shetty.
