Mangalore, Oct.4: The former member of the state Sports Authority, Congress leader and industrialist Vijay Rai (51) passed away in a private hospital in Mangalore on Oct 4, after a short period of illness.
He is an an athlete from his childhood days, he was an alumnus of St Philomena College, Puttur and a well-known runner during college days. He also led the university athletic team.
Earlier he was working in Cadbury-Fry, later he set up his own enterprise in Sullia. During his active days in politics, he was a member of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
Until death, he served as member of the managing board of Sahyadri group of institutions , Director of Ramakrishna Credit Co Operative Bankand Venkatramana Cooperative Society. He had also served in different posts in DK District Athletic Association, Buntara alias Nadavara Sangha, Wine Merchants’ Association, Sullia Chamber of Commerce and Industries and others.
