Dharwad, Oct 21: Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande said, here on Sunday, that the State government has decided to appoint 430 lecturers, in the first phase, to the first grade colleges.
“The State government had decided to appoint 930 lecturers to the first grade colleges, but the Finance department has given approval to appoint only 430 lecturers in the first phase. The government will soon issue notification on this,” Deshpande said.
He cited the amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution, according special status to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, for the delay in appointing lecturers.
“As per the amendment made to Article 371, job reservation should be given to candidates from the Hyderabad-Karnataka region in other parts of the State too. The Cabinet has resolved all the technical problems and the recruitment process will begin soon,” Deshpande added.
Regarding the State government halting the recruitment process for the posts of professors and associate professors in Karnatak University, Deshpande said, the process has been halted to bring in more transparency into the recruitment process.
At present, the candidates are given marks ranging from 12.5 to 40. This process is more complex and has led to confusion. So, the government is planning to implement uniform counselling process for the said posts. The recruitment process would restart after the new measure is implemented, he added.
The minister said 11,000 guest lecturers will be appointed to the first grade degree colleges and universities in a phased manner.
He, however, rubbished allegations that the government has withheld the salaries of guest lecturers serving in various colleges. In fact, the government has already released Rs 30 crore towards the salaries of the guest lecturers, he asserted.
On the Teachers’ Training Academy here, Deshpande said the government is committed to set up the Academy and the process to create infrastructure and recruitment of staff for the same will start in another five months.
