Mangaluru, June 20: Incessant rains have been witnessed in the coastal areas and a man in Belthangady taluk has expired after lightning struck him.
Sea erosion is reported from some areas and the coconut trees have been washed away by the waves. Calamities due to the rain have been reported from Mulki, Puttur, Belthangady, and other areas.
Kinnigoli:
Due to the heavy showers and strong breeze in the early morning on Friday, heavy losses have been incurred at Kerekadu area under the Kilpady gram panchayat jurisdiction. The strong breeze has damaged over 25 houses were and incurred heavy losses in the plantations too. Power supply was affected as many trees had fallen down.
Cement sheets of some houses had fallen at some distance near the houses while the cement sheets of some other houses are unseen.
A tree had collapsed over the house of Harish Shettigar, tenant of Kumuda at Bellayaru, under the Padu Panambur gram panchayat. The occupant of the house suffered minor injuries. Revenue Inspector Nityananda Das, Village accountant V Venkatesh, and other leaders visited the spot.
Kokkada: Lightning claims the death of a man.
Lightning has claimed the life of Agriculturist Annu Gowda (50), son of late Jathanna Gowda, resident of Mannagundi, Karaytadka in Kalenja village. At around 7.30 am on Friday, while Annu Gowda was making preparations for his agricultural activities near his house, he was struck by lightning. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but in vain. As an impact of lightning, cracks were seen on the walls of the house. The coconut and arecanut trees near the house were also affected by lightning; electric cable was also charred due to the intensity of lightning.
Deceased is survived by wife, three daughters and son. Kokkada revenue inspector Vijaya Vikrama, village accountant Roopesh, Deepak and Manjunath from Nellyadi police outstation have visited the spot.
A case has been lodged at Uppinangady police station.
Puttur: Lightning damages pump shed.
The rain which began across the Puttur taluk on Thursday evening continued even throughout the day on Friday. In Puttur taluk centre, 11 mm rain was recorded on Thursday, while on Friday 41 mm rain was recorded.
The pump shed which belonged to R Subbarao, resident of Sundaravana, near Santyaru in Aryapu village was damaged due to lightning. The pumpset, and wiring have been damaged and the loss is estimated to be Rs 50,000.
Bantwal: Swelling Nethravathi river.
The heavy rain with breeze which began across the Bantwal taluk on Thursday night, continued even on Friday. The Nethravathi River which had become dry since few months has begun to swell due to the rain. The taluk administration has conducted meetings and taken precautionary measures.
Subramanya: Heavy showers
Subramanya and its surrounding areas have received heavy rainfall on Friday. The rain has hit the normal life of people here. Guttigaru, Kalkunda, Harihara, Kollamogru, Balugodu, Madappadi, Inakidu, Kalmakaru, and other areas have received rainfall the entire day on Friday. As the rainwater began flowing down the mountains, vehicular movement was affected in some places.
