Udupi; Oct 05: Addressing the press reporters in the press meet held at pathrika Bhavan called by Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty, founder of Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti said in his speech that decision of former union minister Janardhana Poojary and management committee of the temple to appointing two permanent widow priests and installation of Dattatraya idol by them in Kudroli’s Gokarnanatha temple is highly condemnable and deplorable.
Recollecting the contributions to temples and Hindu religion by us, he decried the decision of appointing widow priests in the temple by the management committee and former union minister by shedding his tears.
This decision, from society point of view is highly objectionable and discussed with eminent and able personalities of the community. Even according to them also, decision of Janardhana Pojary is wrong, he added.
He further said that being Poojary is a political leader, his first and foremost duty is to love and respect his religion. In all respect, Christian community is advanced community in the entire world. In this community also there are disputes. There are many dispute, discussion related sisters and nuns in the community. But they never appointed any woman or widow as the priest in their church, he alleged.
In Christianity and Islam, the priests are being appointed based on their experiences, one got in religious books and only after assessing their religious, spiritual knowledge, priest will be appointed.
The matter of bringing widows into the main stream is appreciable. But by utilizing them in religion, installing God’s idols (statues) is foolishness.Therefore, he urged Poojary and management committee of the temple to drop the idea of appointing widow priests in the temple
