A technician allegedly tried to sexually assault an 11-year-old boy after luring him to the washroom inside a mosque, a court heard.

The Public Prosecution accused the 57-year-old Pakistani defendant of trying to sexually assault the Indian boy. The boy, however, managed to open the door and escape. The incident happened on January 9 this year. The defendant faced an attempted sexual assault charge in the Court of First Instance.

The boy’s father, a 43-year-old Indian businessman, said in the prosecution investigation that his son came home crying. “I learnt from him that a man tried to assault him in the washroom of the mosque in Al Muraqqabat.”

The father reported the incident at Al Muraqqabat police station, where a sketch was drawn up. The boy pointed at the accused later at a mosque, where the latter was held back until the police arrived. The defendant’s fingerprints were lifted from washroom’s door.

The boy said in the investigation that the accused dragged him by force into the washroom. The accused reportedly offered him money to do what he instructed. The defendant denied the charge, but admitted that he slapped the boy.
