RAEBARELI: Targeting opposition parties for attempting to malign her family and her husband, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday came out in open defence of husband Robert Vadra for the first time and said she was deeply saddened by the allegations and felt very strongly about them.

Commenting on allegations of corruption against Vadra, she said, “for two years I have been hearing these charges against my husband. I feel very strongly about them.”

Priyanka, however, did not clarify whether she thought her husband was innocent.

Taking a philosophical note, instead, she said the attacks against the family and her only make her stronger and allowed her to fight back with renewed vigour.

“Everyday, I have to tell my children that the truth will be known one day and to not pay heed to what they hear. I learnt this spirit to fight and survive from my grand mother Indira Gandhi,” she said.

On Tuesday, Priyanka also spoke, for the first time, about Sonia’s foreign descent and said India’s culture of tolerance and pluralism has embraced her with open arms.

She also said this country and culture were now being defiled by an opposition party that wanted to lower the grade of politics in the country by resorting to personal attacks and hate speeches.

Appealing to the people to vote keeping in mind the kind of future they wanted for the country, Priyanka also said it is up to people to choose a party that believes in dividing people on caste, community and religious grounds, or a party like Congress, which believes in empowering people and inclusive growth for all.
