Hike in the number of international passengers opting MIA.

Mangalore, October 24: The Mangalore International Airport has been used by 6.57 lakh air passengers till the first six months of this year. Even though four percent rise in the total number of passengers has been observed, there is a fall in the passenger movement within the country from MIA.

J T Radhakrishna, airport director has revealed in the press statement that from April to September 30th this year, 4.19lakhs passengers moved within India and 2.38 lakhs passengers travelled to and from abroad. The count of international passengers last year was 1.92 lakhs and 4.4 lakhs of passengers travelled within the country from here.

It can be observed from the statement that there has been remarkable fall in number of local passengers leaving to smaller towns like Trichy, Madurai, Tirupati, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Bhubaneshwar, during this period.

He said, in the movement of passengers at this airport during the years 2012-13 and 2013-14, there was 15 and 21 percent hike respectively.

He expressed that the passenger count may rise if operators start operating new flights to national and international destinations from MIA.
