Gang attempts to murder Bajrang Dal leader

Puttur, September 2: Attempt to murder convener of Bajrang Dal- local unit, took place on Tuesday evening September 1st.

The victim of the attack is identified as Rajesh Perigeri, an auto rickshaw driver by profession

It is gathered that While Rajesh was waiting for customers near the city bus stand in Puttur, two men approached him and hired his auto for Kapikad. Rajesh then moved towards Kapikad. As soon as the auto rickshaw reached an isolated area in Kapikad, a gang of five masked people that was already waiting at the place along with two men who had come by the auto rickshaw, attacked on Rajesh. They reportedly attempted to murder Rajesh by tightly pressing his neck. Rajesh’s cell phone and the key of the auto rickshaw was also snatched away by the attackers group.

Rajesh struggled and managed to escape from their hands and ran through the wood. He reached Kumbra and then Puttur. The personnel’s at rural police station reportedly declined to register the case, pointing the fact that his auto-rickshaw had been hired at the city bus stand. Rajesh got admitted into a private hospital in the city, and later informed this matter to Bajrang Dal activists.

Bajrang Dal leaders such as Muralikrishna Hasantadka, advocate, Madhava Poojary, Dinesh Kumar Jain and president of Sneha Sangama Auto Rickshaw Owners and Drivers Association, and Nellikatte Jagadish Shetty- city councillor, led a delegation comprising of Bajrang Dal activists and auto rickshaw drivers to the city police station here and explained about the above incidents.

The delegation which was directed to the rural police station there as the spot of the incident falls within their jurisdiction and later a case was registered.

Sources said, this attack was done due to a pre-existing enmity related to an allegation that an attempt to kidnap a woman named Nausheeda had been made in the city. This incident had taken place two years ago and later, it was learnt that this was a fake complaint. Tension had prevailed in the town as this information was spread, and Rajesh sought information from the police under RTI act.
