Complaint filed after police allegedly beat-up minor boy

Mangaluru, October 5: A case of alleged police brutality on a 14-year-old minor boy been reported in which he has complained that he was beaten up by two policemen for no proper reason while the boy was returning from a film theatre.

The minor boy, a 7th standard student at a government school, is the victim of this alleged police brutality.

In the complaint filed, Prajwal stated that on October 3rd night, he and his friends after attending tuition classes, had been to watch 9.45 pm show of a Kannada movie at Big Cinemas in Bharath Mall and at 1am they came out.

The complaint states, when they were walking along the road near KSRTC bus terminus here, two men who came in a bike, stopped the boys and asked them where were they going at that hour of night. The boys replied them that they had been to tuitions. Then the men said that they were police and allegedly slapped Prajwal and also beat him up on the thigh with a stick. They also reportedly abused the boys, calling them ‘thieves’ loitering at night and snatched away the boy’s mobile phone. When Prajwal asked the police to give back his phone, he was allegedly beaten up. Later, the boys went to a nearby canteen belonging to someone they knew, and were admitted to the hospital on the same night, states the complaint.

The police reportedly were from Urwa police station.

Pertaining to this, a complaint was lodged in Kadri police station.
