Mangaluru, October 8: Following the post delivery death of a young woman who was admitted to Lady Goschen hospital recently, it has been alleged that the her death was caused due to hospitals negligence.

Madhavi, wife of Thimmappa Gowda and a resident of Tenkamijar, was admitted to Lady Goschen hospital on September 27th and on the same day, she had delivered her first child, a healthy boy child.

However, as she suddenly developed complications on the next day, she was operated upon. She was shifted to Wenlock and then to a private hospital, where she expired.

Addressing a press meet in Moodbidri on Wednesday October 7th, ZP member Janardhan Gowda alleged that the hospital’s negligence had caused Madhavi’s death. He claimed that post delivery, her family members were not allowed to see either Madhavi or the baby even till evening.

On September 28th, Madhavi suffered heavy bleeding and was operated. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Wenlock hospital, but due to unavailability of specialized doctors, she was again shifted to a private hospital. She failed to respond to treatment and expired on October 5th, said Janardhan Gowda.

Janardhan Gowda said that despite having a tie-up with a private hospital, Madhavi was taken to another private hospital and the bill raised up to Rs 2.4 lakhs. Even though the family belongs to BPL category, they did not receive any government benefits, claimed Janardhan Gowda.

He said, after Madhavi’s family members and he himself requested the hospital to reduce the bill, a discount of Rs 25,000 was given.

Madhavi had a normal delivery and then developed heavy bleeding. The doctors at Lady Goschen hospital operated upon her, but there was much delay in informing the matter to her family members though they were in the hospital itself. There was no specialized doctor and only PG doctors and nurses were present during the delivery, he alleged.

Janardhan Gowda also said that in this regard, a complaint has been given to the deputy commissioner, who has ordered a probe into the case. Those who are found guilty of negligence should be punished and a suitable compensation should be given to the family, urged Janardhan Gowda.
