Madikeri, Oct. 18: Theerthodbava took place in ‘Brahma Kundike’ at Talacauvery which is the source of the Kaveri River in the occasion of Tula Sankramana on Thursday, October 17 at 12.02 pm.
Thousands of devotees witnessed Cauvery Theerthodbhava.
Religious rituals were performed from morning, under the leadership of priest Ananthesha Kedilaya from Dakshina Kannada district. They sprinkled holy water on devotees, soon after Theerthodbhava occurred.
Apart from the devotees from Kodagu district, a large number of devotees arrived from across the State and neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Several devotees took shelter at Bhagamandala and surrounding places on the previous night.
It is believed that once in a year, Goddess Kaveri appears as the sacred ‘Theerthodbava’ during the Madikeri Dasara. The water pours out from the spring as a fountainhead on this day.
Usually Theerthodbava takes place during the night. But this time, it took place in the day time. So a large number of devotees gathered in Bhagamandala to witness the event.
Temple management committee offered Annasantharpane to devotees at Anna Chatra in temple premises.
A tight police security also there at the time to avoid any bad incidents in the venue.
Virajpet MLA and former assembly speaker K G Bopaiah, Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha member H Vishwanath, Bhagandeshwar-Talakaveri temple management committee president Manu Muthappa, zilla panchayat president Biddanda Usha Devamma, , Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tiwari and others were present.
