Udupi; Dec 20: Moodbidri Alvas College has emerged as the champion of the recently concluded two days Mangalore University‘s men’s tournament held in Udupi Poornaprajna college stadium and again bagged the ‘Patel Sowkoor Anthayya Shetty rolling shield’ award.
In a closely contested tournament, this held on Dec 18, Wednesday under flood light Moodbidri Alvas won the game by beating its close rival Mangalore VV camp team with the difference of 25-19, 17-25-25-12 and 25-19.
Thus Moodbidri Alvas won the medal for the successive eighth time along with cash prize of Rs 10,000.Mangalore VV team bagged the runner-up medal followed by Mangalore Sharada College team third prize and Mulky Vijaya College team fourth place.
Valedictory function: In the valedictory function Shirur Mataadheesha Shreelaxmivara Theertha Swamiji and former MLA Raghupati Bhat distributed the medals to winning teams. Sadashiva Rao, principal of the college presided over the function.
Chief guests of honors like Mangalore VV College’s physical education department’s deputy director Dr.Kishore Kumar C.K, advocate Pradeep Kumar were present.
Dr.Sukanya Fernandez, head of the college’s Hindi department welcomed the guests, Physical education director Sukumar proposed vote of thanks and Manjunatha Karaba compered the programme.
