Kundapur; Jan 15: The annual ‘Gendaseve’ and festival Mahotsava was celebrated with great pomp, fervour and splendour in Udupi district’s historically famous and place with divine mission Maranakatte Shree Brahmalingeshwara temple on Jan 14, Tuesday, the day of Makara Sankrati. According to the notion of the people, this temple was established by great Shankaracharya.
This temple is the holy place for countless number Tulu devotees’ communities and boundless number of devotees from distance places. Daily special poojas are being held in this temple. Sea of devotees’ offers varieties of decorative, adornment flowers on festival day especially Chrysanthemum, which is very dearer to God. This system of offering, is called as” Hookai offering”. Especially, the devotees of Tulu Nadu got tremendous faith and trepidation on Shree Brahmalingeshwara and it is the tradition of these devotees visiting this temple every year and offering Poojas. In this holy place, Brahmalingeshwara is the main God followed by deities like tiger god, Haiguli, Marlbekku (insane cat) etc Parivara Daivas are inhabiting.
On Jan 14, Tuesday sea of devotees started pouring into temple from early morning to have the glimpse of God and to offer special poojas.Those who wished to participate in “Gendaseve” had to be in queue from 6.30 pm in the evening. After the Darshana in the night, millions of devotees participated in “Koda Seve” at 11.30 pm in the night and offered special poojas, being the tradition of this holy place taking place every year. Participation in ‘Kenda Seve’ without any difference between women and gents is another specialty of this holy place. On Jan 15, Wednesday Jaathramahotsava, Tulabhara and Dakke Bali will be held in splendid manner.
This holy place is walkable distance from Chittoor village, falls in between the road from Kundapur to Kollur on national highway.
