TV actor Ahwaan Kumar arrested after his alleged girlfriend accuses him of sexual abuse
Oshiwara police have arrested television actor, Ahwaan Kumar following a rape complaint by his alleged girlfriend, also part of the same industry.
A source says, “Ahwaan got into a relationship with the actress on the pretext of marrying her but when she told him about being pregnant, he forced her to abort the foetus and ended the relationship.”
The 31-year-old had apparently registered complaints against Ahwaan alias Maneet twice at the same police station and had received threat calls from her industry colleagues to keep her lips sealed about the entire episode.
According to the FIR, the actress and Ahwaan had met on the sets of a television serial in 2011. Ahwaan proposed to her and gradually, they entered into a relationship.
On February 12, 2012, Ahwaan got her admitted to a nursing home in Andheri, where she underwent the abortion. Hospital records have Ahwaan’s name listed as her ‘husband’.
The complainant alleges, “He had promised to marry me and also met my parents. When I got pregnant, I asked him to go for a court marriage but he started threatening and torturing me. He also forced me to abort the child and asked me to concentrate on my caree instead.
Later, he informed me that he cannot marry me as our kundalis (birth charts) did not match. When I pressurised him to marry, he started abusing me as well as my family.”
On November 22, 2014, Oshiwara police registered an FIR under sections 376 (rape) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Subhash Bele, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station, says: “The accused is in our custody. We are doing a background check on the facts and records, and a proper investigation will be conducted.”
