Mysore: The CID has begun investigating the attack on Director General (DG) of the Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Rashmi V. Mahesh, during her visit to condole the death of ATI mess-in- charge, H. Venkatesh on October 15.
CID DySP, A. Kumarswamy, who is heading the investigation, returned without recording Ms Rashmi’s statement on Saturday, but said she had agreed to speak to him on Sunday.
Asked if he was inquiring into the alleged role played by ADGP intelligence, A. M. Prasad in the attack, Mr Kumaraswamy said he was not. Ms Rashmi had in her report to the Chief Secretary charged that the police had been instructed by Mr Prasad not to provide her security during her visit to condole the ATI staffer’s death.
Mr Kumarawamy said he had been directed by the DG, CID to inquire into certain aspects of the case, but could not disclose what they were. Mysore police commissioner, Dr M. A. Saleem, when contacted, too said the alleged role of the ADGP, intelligence was not being investigated. “Ms Rashmi has not mentioned it in her complaint,” he added. But the police is reportedly looking into who could have instigated the attack on the officer.
The DG had pointed fingers at Mr Prasad, calling the attack premeditated to divert attention from the Rs 100 crore scam she claimed to have unearthed at the institute during the term of her predecessor and his wife, Amita Prasad, between 2008 and 2014. “They would have lynched me but for the fact that I did not lose my balance and fall down,” she said in her report to the Chief Secretary.
