Bengaluru: After facing a week-long protest over the alleged rape of a 6-year-old student, the school in Bengaluru is opening its gates to students once again with intensified security measures.

“They have already started implementing all the measures, our DCP has already examined all the measures and they are in the process of installing 90 CCTV cameras should be done by the end of the week,” Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddi said.

The school authorities are also claiming that they are cooperating with police to ensure security for the students. “We are cooperating with the concerned authorities for further investigation and we will further take severe measures to restructure infrastructure with the respect to the safety of the students,” a school representative Kusum said.

A peaceful meeting to discuss security measures in the city took a political turn on Wednesday, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers protesting outside the school. A few BJP women wing workers were even taken into preventive custody while they protested near Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence. With all the drama underway, a few aggrieved parents even walked out of the meeting with the school authorities.

While investigation into the alleged rape continues, the Karnataka government has announced setting up of a task force for schools. Bengaluru has been witnessing a series of sexual crimes against children in schools.
