Bangalore: The State Congress on Friday strongly defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the issue of denotification of lands in Arkavathi Layout and described a fact-finding report released by the BJP on the issue as a conspiracy to destabilise the State government.

Party leaders B L Shankar, H M Revanna and V S Ugrappa, who held a joint press conference, claimed that the contents of the BJP report were far from truth and aimed at creating suspicion in the minds of people on the issue of corruption.

The Siddaramaiah government has denotified lands legally and as per the Karnataka High Court’s direction, he added.

The BJP’s fact-finding committee headed by S Suresh Kumar and V Somanna has in its 295-page report, submitted to the State party president, claimed that the Siddaramaiah government had illegally denotified 707 acres of land in order to mobilise resources for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Shankar said the BJP was indulging in cheap politics on denotification of land. It has been trying to make an issue out of a non-issue. By denotifying the land, the government has only obeyed the court order, he said.

Moreover, the principal Opposition party has not been able to find any lapse in the government. Efforts by the BJP are aimed at destabilising the government. It is not proper to release any report  when a judicial probe is under way, he said.
