Mangaluru, November 8: Kannada actress Padmaja Rao who was in Mangaluru to promote a Tulu film in which she has acted, said on Friday November 7th at press club Mangaluru that she was upset with the industry for branding her as being fit only to play the role of a mother.
“In my first film, I was the mother for Ravichandran in the film ‘Hathavadi’, and so far I have been acting as a mother in the movies. The opportunities become so narrow, particularly for a woman. In Chaali Polilu, I had got a very good role and it gave me a different kind of experience. I would like to try new roles instead of playing the same mother’s role. This movie is making noise in Bengaluru also and is a very successful movie”.
She said, “I have acted in more than 80 films and in 60 films the young actresses were invited from other states who did not know Kannada. I was surprised to see a long queue when I had come to watch Chaali Polilu movie in Jyothi theatre. This is purely a family film”.
She added that she wished to play other role than a mother. I enjoyed watching the movie when my role came and I was really happy with my acting.
Prakash Pandeshwar producer of the Tulu film said the film would be released next week in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Sullia, Puttur and Kasaragod. The film had witnessed collections of over Rs 46 lakhs in the first week. “Artistes were good to us, they supported us throughout the shooting”, he said.
Speaking about the other producers and their upcoming movies, he said, “In a year three to four Tulu movies will be released and there should be a minimal of two months gap between each movie. In such case, the producer will not face any kind of financial crisis”.
Director of the movie Chaali Polilu Veerendra Shetty Kavoor said that his expectations were low and he revealed that the success of the film was over his expectations.
