Industry majors are confident of new chief minister Siddaramaiah according priority to the development of much-needed infrastructure in Bangalore city. Some of them want Siddaramaiah to ensure roads in the city free from traffic jams, while others want him to take measures to keep the city clean.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon Limited said the mandate given by the electorate would be a golden opportunity for Congress and the new CM to focus on the development issues.
“Bangalore is known for crumbled infrastructure. Traffic jams have become a daily feature and it has become a Herculean task for people to reach from one place to another. The CM himself has announced that he gives priority for the infrastructure in Bangalore. I think it is a good sign for development,” said Kiran.
HV Harish of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), said the new government should focus on growth of industries that have the potential to generate employment. “I want the state government to treat such industries on par with new industries by qualifying them for incentives. The government should also take measures to for revival of small and medium industries that are on the verge of closure. If revival of such industrial units is not viable, the government should expedite the closure of such units,’’ he said.
J Crasta, Co-chairman, ASSOCHAM Southern Regional Council said the first priority of the new government should be to restore confidence of investors in the state’s growth story. Timely decision making and creation of enabling environment for new investors are important to rekindle their interest.
“Tackling poor power situation would be a major task before the new government. This is imperative if the state wants to take a lead over others,’’ he said.
K Shiva Shanmugam, president, federation of Karnataka chambers of commerce and industry (FKCCI) said: “We want the new CM to resolve the garbage issue at the earliest. The city needs a better investment atmosphere. We want him to also address the financial crisis that the state is in now. However, he must address them without taxing the industries and commerce. Infrastructure should be given top priority. Metro rail work must be completed on war footing. We want qualified people as ministers and we hope that the chief minister selects capable people the right portfolios. Lastly, we want corruption to be contained.”
