Mangaluru, November 21: The meeting of the RTA was held in the office of the deputy commissioner on Thursday November 20th to discuss about the revision of the bus fares.
The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, A B Ibrahim, and the chairman of regional transport authority (RTA) announced the decision of revising bus fares twice a year with six month duration. Considering the frequent requests from bus owners to revise and hike the bus fares, due to volatile prices of diesel and spare parts.
DC A B Ibrahim, announced this after the workers of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and others pointed out that bus owners had not reduced fares even after diesel prices fell.
Rajavarma Ballal, President of Canara Bus Operators Union, opposing to this said that diesel prices alone cannot be the only factor to reduce fares but the cost of spare parts keep on rising. He also stated that bus fares hike only once although diesel prices undergo frequent variations. Hence, he expressed that the demand to reduce fares has no justification.
