Chennai: A 35-year old murder convict, serving a life-term and in prison for the past 15 years, will be getting married on November 23 with the Madras High Court granting him ten days leave.

Justice V Ramasubramanian directed the authorities to grant the leave to Muhaideen Abdhul Kadhar on a petition by his father.

Khadar was first arrested here in 1999 in an assault case.  He was convicted and sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a court.

Uraiyur police in Tiruchirappalli arrested him in a murder case in which he was awarded life imprisonment.

Pointing out that Khadar was just 20 years-old at the time of his first arrest and that he had undergone 15 years of jail term already, his father Luthbullah of Nagore in Nagapattinam district sought at least two months of leave for his son’s marriage after his plea to authorities elicited no response.

When the matter came up before him, Justice Ramasubramanian directed the authorities to grant at least 10 days of leave for Khadar with effect from November 22.

He may be provided adequate police escort, the judge said, adding that there should not be any intrusion into the life of Khadar during his wedding and thereafter.

The convict should surrender before the authorities on December 2, the Judge ordered.
