New Delhi: A day after the National Capital Region recorded its first swine flu fatality, all government hospitals have been put on alert by the Delhi Government’s health department.
Hospitals have been asked to take appropriate measures to treat swine flu cases.
“We have requested the hospitals to take all precautionary measures and ensure that the isolation ward is fully prepared.
“Any patient coming with the symptoms of swine flu should be immediately admitted to the isolation ward of the hospital,” said Dr Charan Singh, nodal officer for swine flu in Delhi.
The move came after a 51-year-old woman from Ghaziabad succumbed to the virus at a private hospital.
The deceased, identified as Sheel Goel, resident of East Model Town in Ghaziabad, was admitted to the ICU of Ganga Ram Hospital in a serious condition on December 21.
She was brought from Yashoda hospital to Columbia Asia hospital in Ghaziabad and later referred to Sir Ganga Ram on December 21, with high blood pressure and hypertension.
The health department of Delhi also sent medicines and important drugs to various government hospitals.
“We are fully prepared to deal with any case of H1N1 influenza.
“The health department has also sent us few more medicines and drugs on Friday night,” said Dr Sidharth Ramji, medical superintendent, Lok Nayak hospital.
The Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Saturday said that the situation is totally under control.
“There is no need to panic as government hospitals are fully equipped to deal with the situation.
“Our health department and the government hospitals are capable of treating the influenza.
“They should go to the nearest hospital,” said Nadda told reporters.
If a patient must go into the community (eg, to seek medical care), he or she should wear a face mask to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in the community when coughing, sneezing, talking, or breathing.
While in home isolation, patients and other household members should be given infection control instructions.
