Mysore, May 22:  The State government will revoke the previous BJP government’s budgetary proposal to form 43 new taluks in the State.

The government has come to the decision, considering the financial implications of the ambitious project proposed in the budget presented by former chief minister Jagadish Shettar in February this year, said Revenue Minister V Sreenivas Prasad here on Wednesday.  “At present, the government is tasked with the implementation of its promises announced in the manifesto before the elections,” he added.

However, Prasad praised the previous government’s initiatives such as Sakaala and Atalji Jana Snehi Kendras. The official machinery needed to be pulled up further for the effective implementation of both the programmes, he told the reporters.

On encroachment of government land, the Revenue minister said that the State government would soon speed up measures to recover 30,000 acres of government land encroached by private parties in Bangalore. Besides, a joint legislature committee will be formed to probe similar cases of encroachment across the State. However, the minister made an evasive reference to the probe report on the encroachment of government land, submitted by the task force, headed by retiered IAS officer Balasubramanian, appointed by the BJP government.
