Mangaluru, January 23: All-India Congress Committee (AICC) member P V Mohan addressing a press meet in the city on Friday, January 23rd said, the Congress party strongly condemns the move of forming Bharatiya Hindu Parishad (BHP). BHP should be scraped as it is against the principles of the Congress party, he said.
Congress party has played an important role during the freedom struggle and has a history of more than hundred years.
He said, Congress party is committed to secularism, and aims at building a secular society. A small group in Puttur has hurt the sentiments of the secular leaders of the party, by forming the Bharatiya Hindu Parishad.
Hemanath Shetty president of Puttur block Congress had recently launched the BHP. He said, this move has been criticized by some of the senior party leaders and said that the congress has nothing to do with BHP.
Congress party is not anti-Hindu. Most of the party leaders and party workers are Hindus; former minister B Janardhan Poojary is a Hindu, we can observe him playing a crucial role in the development of Kudroli Shree Gokarnananatha Temple”, said Mohan.
Mohan said, reservation of 20 percent was given to the backward community of the society earlier, but now the Congress party has decided to raise it to 50 percent. None of the party in India has given so much priority to the empowerment of backward class, he said.
Membership drive is going on briskly during which priority will be given to the Hindu backward class, said Mohan.
